Winter is thawing. HBO admit they're exploring the idea of pursuing a prequel (or multiple) for Game of Thrones considering it has a worldwide cult following.
It also helps that there's been plenty of drama going on before the events in the show with author George R. R. Martin just a phone call away to help fill in any blanks. It would be no small task to meet the standards of the show today.
"It’s such a big property we would be foolish not to explore it, but it’s a pretty high bar,” Casey Bloys of HBO told Entertainment Weekly. "We’ll take some shots at it. I’m not going to do it just to do it. It has to feel very special," he continued. "I would rather have no sequel and leave it as-is then have something we rushed out.”
Westeros is drowning in its own sordid history with every major noble house having plenty of secrets buried under their castles. Game of Thrones final eighth season is scheduled to run in 2018. Presumably everyone works out there differences as they all live happily ever after...
Game of Thrones season 7 premieres this summer for seven episodes.
