Thus the looks were bold and brash, with quad-headlamp styling and the continuation (on some models) of the three-speed column-mounted gearchange and front bench seating that Vauxhall had persisted with for years. Two new hemispherical-head overhead-cam engines, of 1599cc and 1975cc, were introduced, with servo-assisted front brakes for the latter. The VX 4/90 was the sporty model, with twin carburettors, overdrive and Rostyle wheels.
