Farina styling reached Vanden Plas in 1959 with the 3-Litre model. The VP was top dog of the trio that also included the Austin Westminster and Wolseley 6/99. It was packed with even more wood and leather and offered silent refinement from its extensive soundproofing, which successfully drowned out the burble of the six-cylinder 2912cc C-series engine. The MkII of 1961 gave more power – 120bhp – and the ability to sail past 100mph at last, plus a four-speed floor-mounted transmission. As well as the standard saloon, a touring limousine could also be specified.
