Cena is an inherently likable performer whose not given enough to do here, but makes the most of his moments. Laith Nakli puts in strong work as well, offering up a surprisingly textured voice performance.

In these divided times, “The Wall ” is impressively committed to the durability of the human spirit. While there will obviously be more varied and layered examinations of this time in our nation’s history, and though the ending is perhaps too unnecessarily “edgy” for its own good, as an engaging, exhilarating moviegoing experience, “The Wall” exemplifies just how much Liman commands the screen when working with strong material.

Doug Liman’s wartime sniper drama The Wall hits its mark when trusting its action.

The Wall is a fairly hopeless film. In a sense, the fragile structure of the title acts as a double metaphor: for a barrier between enemies that keeps them from killing each other, as well as one that must come down if true understanding is ever to occur.

Director Doug Liman follows up 'Edge of Tomorrow' with a lean, suspenseful Iraqi sniper drama that could also be called 'Live. Die. Repeat.'

“The Wall” is a bare-bones tale of a two-man Army sniper team (Aaron Taylor-Johnson, John Cena) that comes to grief in a desolate Iraqi desert.

Then, around the time we hear the dreaded thesis line, "The Wall" starts to crack and starts looking and feeling more and more artificial in its suspense constructs.

The Wall packs a surprisingly savage punch by boiling the exploits of battle down to its essential elements.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson deserves more credit as an actor, because he's the only reason this Iraq War thriller hobbles steadily on two legs.

Former Black List scribe Dwain Worrell gets his feature debut shot at the screenwriters’ brass ring in this tale of two U.S. soldiers pinned down by a cunning Iraqi sniper.

Doug Liman's latest is a decidedly smaller-scale action film that finds a pair of American soldiers, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson and John Cena, trapped by a sniper in Iraq.

Doug Liman’s pared-down, Iraq-set war movie never fully expresses what it has to say about human conflict.

Early in his career, a studio executive was heard to say of the director Doug Liman that he was the sort of person who, when asked what time it was, would take a wristwatch, disassemble it, explain its working parts and their function to you, and reassemble it, finally apprising you of the time via the result of his exertions.
