Based on best-selling novel by “The Alienist” author Caleb Carr. The story follows the American outlaw turned mercenary Frederick Townsend Ward during China’s Taiping Rebellion from 1850 to 1864. The story traces Ward’s life fighting with Garibaldi in South America, William Walker in Central America, the French army in the Crimea, and mostly the Taiping Rebellion.
