The GT350 was the brainchild of former chicken farmer and Le Mans winner, Carroll Shelby. He took near-finished fastback coupés from Ford and reworked them into altogether more convincing sports cars at his California works. Chief among changes was a hike in horsepower from 271bhp to 306bhp from the existing 4724cc V8 engines, in addition to a weightier steering set-up and revised suspension geometry. Most appeared in the Wimbledon White with blue racing stripes, the 350R edition being an off-the-peg competition version.
