PEUGEOT 404Classic Car
At first glance, the Farina-styled 404 looks like a copy of BMC’s and Fiat’s contemporary mid-sized saloons, with 403 underpinnings. In reality, the 404 was a nicer car to drive and offered a clever design as although it looked like a grand saloon it was actually smaller than the car it was supposed to replace. In the end – and in good Peugeot tradition – the 404 and 403 ran concurrently for three years, before the newer car went on to sell millions worldwide. Still a relatively common site in Northern Africa, thanks to solid build and simple DIY.
