‘Amazing’ isn’t a word that troubles the French car industry as often as it should, but that superlative perfectly fits the Panhard 24. It might have been powered by a weedy two-cylinder engine, but such was its aerodynamic efficiency the French coupé could push 100mph and deliver excellent fuel consumption. Sadly, there wasn’t a market for this prescient albeit expensive car, and it contributed to Panhard’s financial collapse and Citroën’s takeover. A few remain in the UK, and have a keen following, even if keeping one roadworthy is challenging.
