MET Opera - Die Meistersinger von Nurnbergmovie
Met Music Director James Levine conducts Wagner's brilliant comic opera in its first-ever Live in HD performance. Nuremberg, the mid-16th century. When goldsmith's daughter Eva (Annette Dasch) meets handsome young knight Walther von Stolzing (Johan Botha), it's love at first sight. But Eva's wealthy father, Pogner (Hans-Peter Konig), has promised her hand in marriage to the winner of the guild of mastersingers' song contest. Walther has just one day to learn the mastersingers' arcane craft under the tutelage of canny cobbler-poet Hans Sachs (Johan Reuter). Written while Wagner was also working on his Ring cycle, this epic grand opera was the composer's only attempt at comedy. James Levine returns to Wagner by bringing it back to the Met for the first time in eight years. Johan Reuter sings the central role of Hans Sachs, who is based on a real historical figure. Johan Botha reprises his Walther, and the elegant Annette Dasch is Eva.
