During its seven year production run, the 3500GT became an established member of the sporting elite, with the coupé taking the lion’s share of sales. But the lighter Vignale-bodied Spider was every bit as capable as its hard-top sister car, sitting on a shortened wheelbase. During its production run, it was regularly upgraded, gaining front disc brakes and Borani wire wheels in 1959 and a five-speed gearbox the following year. In 1961 the 3500GT also gained Lucas fuel injection. A handful of one-offs were also produced, and are now fabulously valuable.
