Founded by Jem Marsh and Frank Costin, Marcos’ core values revolved around sports cars designed for maximum efficiency and lightness – unusually for cars of their era, extensive use of wood was used in their construction. The 1800 GT was introduced to move Marcos into the MGB market, despite being available in kit form. Powered by a Volvo engine (an unusual step for a British specialist at the time), and featuring an advanced suspension layout, it was a quick and fine-handling alternative. However, the price was on the high side, and sales remained disappointing.
