Price was usefully lower and in kit form the 1500 proved a more popular choice than its more exotic predecessor – although only 290 were made in total. Performance predictably suffered, and the roadholding wasn’t as good, but widely available parts and specialist back-up today make them a sensible and charismatic DIY sports car.
