Here was a car that promised so much and ended up delivering little for the poor Australians that it was foisted upon. The P76 was a brave experiment by BL, who devised the smart Michelotti-styled machine to fight the locals, and for a while it looked like they’d cracked it. Two power units were offered – a 2.6-litre six derived from the Princess, and a 4.4-litre version of Rover’s venerable aluminium V8. The P76 was good to drive, but shoddily built, and flopped badly on the market. Force 7 Coupé was never formally introduced but a few escaped onto the market. A true curio.
