The additional weight of the XK140 over the XK120 was the most evident in the Roadster version. The older car was an unashamed sports car, while its replacement was softer and much more refined – no doubt a deliberate ploy to appeal to American customers. Some sold in Special Equipment form with C-type cylinder head and 210bhp, turning this car into a much more sporting prospect, and the perfect outside lane weapon for Britain’s new motorway age.
