The pre-war looks of the Minx were revamped with the Phase III cars of 1948, which switched to ‘full-width’ styling, completely unitary construction and coil and wishbone independent front suspension. After that, Hillman continued with their process of annual Phase improvements, enlarging engines to give more power, upgrading the suspension and tweaking the bodywork to keep it fresh. The alterations were subtle, but ensured that the breed kept up with its rivals until it was replaced by the Series Minxes of 1956.
