Gladiator 2 unfolds more than two decades after the original, centering on Lucius, now an adult, who is inspired by the legacy of Maximus. Moved by these virtues and forgoing his birthright to ascend as Caesar, he vows to uphold Maximus' ideals. The sequel is expected to depict Lucius' own battles in the arena, as he confronts the ghosts of his political lineage.
