Some of the primitive raucousness of the original was taken away and replaced with more sophisticated practicality, with a hatchback rear instead of a boot. The body was also smoothed out, although not enough to make the car particularly aerodynamic. That had to wait until the MkIII model of 1978, which had a revamped front end with hooded quad-headlamps and a spoiler, plus other subtle touches to modernise it for the 1980s.
