Based on the slightly dull and dumpy 850 saloon, the Coupé thankfully bore no resemblance to it, being more in the fashion of a scaled-down Dino. It had a perkier version of the saloon’s 843cc engine too, which was upgraded to 903cc from 1968. Rear-mounted and water-cooled, it gives the baby coupé a decent turn of speed and its light weight contributes to the car’s excellent handling abilities. It sold well in the UK, but our climate has wiped out most of them now. Survivors are reasonably priced, or you could sniff out a left-hooker to import.
