Facel Vega needed to up its production volumes to make up the shortfall in its third-party body supply business. As the ‘affordable’ second model, the Facellia was to help the firm expand while allowing it to continue producing V8-powered supercars. The 1.6-litre twin-cam engine had an impressive specification, but the 115bhp it made wasn’t enough for anything other than average performance, and it wasn’t exactly reliable either. A great concept, with gorgeous HK500-like styling, marred in the execution, but prized by enthusiasts today.
