CITROEN Traction AvantClassic Car
Prior to the Traction Avant, Citroën were just another European manufacturer of worthy but dull cars. The Traction’s arrival in 1934 changed all that. It was a revolutionary machine, the first front-wheel-drive car to be built by a major car firm. Unitary construction, independent suspension and some very sleek bodies were also part of its chic cocktail; there was simply nothing like it at the time and its rivals wouldn’t catch up for years. Initial cars had 1303cc engines and the range gradually expanded to include the popular 1911cc.
