New Halloween Movie Not A Remake

The much-anticipated new Halloween film will not be a reboot but in fact a sequel, following on from the events of the first two Halloween movies.

The franchise, which is the standard-bearer when it comes to outstanding slasher flicks, will continue with the duo of David Gordon Green and Danny McBride now handling scripting duties on a new Halloween movie, which, according to McBride, will not be a remake at all.

“You know, it’s not a remake. It’s actually, it’s gonna continue the story of Michael Myers in a really grounded way. And for our mythology, we’re focusing mainly in the first two movies and what that sets up and then where the story can go from there.”

Considering we’ve already seen Michael Myers origin story twice now, it’s a smart move to opt out of another reboot that will have to establish canon once again – audiences are already familiar with the ghostly face of ‘The Shape’ now, that probably don’t need to see kid Myers kill his sister again.

The duo of Green and McBride won’t be going it alone though, they’ll be overseen in some creative capacity by original director John Carpenter, who – yes please! – is rumoured to be providing the score too.

Quite what this change of time period means for casting – surely, all the roles will have to be recast unless the idea is to have senior citizen Laurie Strode do battle with her murderous brother.

It’ll be interesting to see what this ‘back to basics’ approach yields.

The next Halloween movie will be released on the 19th October 2018.
