The Terminator: Schwarzenegger Will Play Human Model For T-800

James Cameron has confirmed that a returning Arnold Schwarzenegger will play the human basis for the T-800 in the new Terminator franchise.

It’s no surprise that the actor most associated with and, let’s face it, a key player in the franchises success would return along with the original creator of the series; however, up until now we haven’t had any confirmation of what role he would be playing – Terminator Genisys bent over backwards to justify his aged appearance in a modern Terminator film, much to that films detriment.

Speaking to website The Arnold Fans during a recent Q&A, Cameron confirmed that Schwarzenegger will likely play the human character that serves as the basis for the appearance of the T-800, in Deadpool director Tim Miller’s Terminator flick.

“Yeah, you got to ask yourself, ‘Why did they make these characters look and sound like Arnold? There has to be a reason. So yeah, it has flashed through my mind that there has to have been a prototype,” he said.

“There has to have been a guy who’s DNA was harvested from – that they grew the organic outer layer that they grew the Terminator from…and that presumably was a real person at some point. Now, the question is, did that person have some sort of meaning to Skynet on WHY they chose that one (Arnold)? Or was it like a whole rack of Terminators and the one that happened to be the Arnold model just happened to be closest to the door going out to the time displacement centre and all the others looked different?

"I’ve asked myself these questions but it’s never been resolved…so stay tuned!”

The idea of their being a human prototype for the T-800 was first touted in a deleted scene from Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (although his appearance in Terminator 2: Judgement Day goes someway to suggesting the possibility) where we met the heavily southern-accented model for the unstoppable killing machine.

However, it’s unlikely that this was the impetus for Cameron’s ruminations.

The new Terminator film is due to begin filming in 2018.
