New Trailer for Todd Haynes Carol
Greeted with awards and a standing ovation at Cannes Todd Haynes Carol seems destined to dominate awards season with its period setting, pedigree cast and heart-wrenching story.
Set in 50’s America this adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s The Price of Salt, based in a frosty post-war Manhattan, sees two women, Rooney Mara’s shop clerk Therese Belivet and Cate Blanchett’s lovelessly married Carol, meet and fall in love – but with self-discovery and liberation comes the harsh cold morals of the period. As Carol’s bitter husband, Kyle Chandler, is a threat to both Carol’s future and her competence as a mum.
Adapted by Phyllis Nag, the film also boasts Jake Lacy, Sarah Paulson and Kyle Chandler in its cast.
Carol makes its UK bow at the BFI London Film Festival on October 14, before going out across the UK on November 27.
