Tom Holland to Play a Young Nathan Drake in Uncharted Movie

After spending years languishing in development hell Sony have decided to head in a different direction with their planned adaptation of the Uncharted franchise. With Shawn Levy already attached to direct, the studio now has Tom Holland aboard to play a young Nathan Drake.

The new direction takes inspiration from a sequence in Uncharted: Drake’s Deception where the young, roguish thief first encounters professional rogue Sullivan.

Deadline reports the idea comes from Sony chief Tom Rothman after seeing the latest cut of Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Sony have tried for years to get the film off the ground, with past scripts from Joe Carnahan, David Guggenheim and Eric Warren Singer. They’ll now set a new scribe to draft the story line that captures the protagonist as he grows into the treasure hunter Nathan Drake who made the game a top seller. Uncharted is produced by Charles Roven, Avi Arad, Alex Gartner and Ari Arad.

It’s clear that the studio like what Holland has done with Spider-Man and, as anyone who has seen Captain America: Civil War knows, he has charisma to spare – so he’s a perfect fit for the wisecracking Nathan Drake.
