Tron 3 is Dead at Disney

The plug has been pulled, Tron 3 has been de-rezzed, and Flynn no longer lives. Tron 3 is dead at Disney.

While sources have said it was never officially greenlit but buzz had been growing on the potential Tron Legacy follow up, rumoured to be called Tron Ascension, which was set to go before cameras this October in Vancouver with director Joseph Kosinski returning along with stars Olivia Wilde and Garrett Hedlund reprising their roles.

Disney has been keen to press ahead with the sequel after Tron Legacy made $170 million domestically and grossed $400 million worldwide. They had also been interested in adding Jared Leto to the cast but an offer and negotiations had never commenced.

While Disney has had strong success with its live action properties including Maleficent and this year's Cinderella, which earned $527.4 million worldwide. But it recently had a stumble with the $180 million live-action film Tomorrowland, which underperformed at the box office this past weekend with a $33 million U.S. debut.
