Half-Life 3... With Virtual Reality?

Fans and gamers who have played the Half-Life series have been begging developer Valve for a sequel to Half-Life 2 since the game's release in November 2004. So, for over a decade now after years of losing hope in playing a sequel, an announcement made today might make fans hopeful yet again to take on the role as Gordon Freeman one more time.

There have been rumblings about a Valve virtual reality headset for around two years now and today, at this year’s Game Developers Conference, Valve actually revealed the headset. It's called the Vive and a partnership between HTC and Valve has brought the hardware to life, with plans to release it before the end of this year.

So, what does this have to do with Half-Life 3? Well, HTC's chairwoman, Cher Wang, has gone on record to say she "hopes" a Half-Life video game will be one of the titles released for her company's virtual-reality headset. She continued, stating "HTC was co-operating with Half-Life." So, she did not completely confirm whether this "co-operation" was with a new game, like Half-Life 3, or a VR remake of one of the existing Half-Life titles...

But that's not going to stop us from paying super-close attention as we sit on the edge of our seats tomorrow as Valve provides more details at its own presentation at the Game Developers Conference. Because get this... the event has been scheduled for 3 P.M. Pacific standard time on March 3rd. That's three-three-three... oh please, just give us Half-Life 3 already.
