Beverly Hills Cop 4 Releases Date Pulled

Well that’s a real banana in the tailpipe. Tell Judge Reinhold to stand down, Harold Faltermeyer to pack away the Casio and Brett Ratner to just stop…no, just no. Stop.

Beverly Hills Cop 4 has been pulled from release schedules. It won’t arrive on March 25, 2016, although Eddie Murphy and Brett Ratner remain attached, respectively, to star and direct when and if the project moves forward.

Suspicions that Axel Foley wouldn’t be returning to our screens anytime soon were aroused when Paramount moved Monster Trucks to a March, 2016 release date. While that sounds bad, there just so happens to be another big hitter released that month that might have pummeled its box office hopes into dust; that’s right it’s the superhero grime ‘em up/legal case Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Beverly Hills Cop 4 was one of the first projects announced when producer/explosion wrangler Jerry Bruckheimer exited Disney and decamped at his former home, Paramount. Bruckheimer had no involvement in the ultimately doomed TV series, so it made sense for him to jump back on board a property that made both him and Don Simpson such a bankable pair.

The one sticking point in all of this is the script, which no one has failed to crack yet. Eddie Murphy himself told Rolling Stone in January 2014: "I’m not doing a Beverly Hills Cop unless they have a really incredible script. They're trying to get it right. I’ve read a couple things that look like they can make some paper, but I’m not doing a shitty movie just to make some paper. The shit got to be right."

Let’s not forget, the original Beverly Hills Cop script was nominated for an Oscar…
