The Rock to Lead Big Trouble in Little China Remake

Fire up the old porkchop express and head straight for trouble as The Rock is planning to produce and star in a remake of the very definition of 80’s cult classic Big Trouble in Little China.

Now before you ascend and star firing lightning from your fingers at us (it’s all in the reflexes) let’s try to keep an open mind…

No, can’t do it. It’s an uphill struggle. The original is a one-off, anyone who has attempted to remake a John Carpenter film has produced films ranging from the middling (Assault on Prescient 13) to the downright awful (The Fog) and let’s face it, the original movie flopped at the box office – trying to recapture the downright weirdness that made the film such a cult, word of mouth classic, is like trying to capture lighting in bottle made of water.

Dwayne Johnson will be playing/living in the shadow of Kurt Russell's Jack Burton; the all-American, truck-driving, beer swilling ‘hero’ of the original film who gets dragged into a centuries-old mystical battle in San Francisco's Chinatown.

Dark Horizon reports "X-Men: First Class" scribes Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz will pen the project while Johnson and producing partners Dany and Hiram Garcia will produce. The trio pitched the remake to Fox as the original is one of Johnson's all time favourite films – here’s hoping he can find a director to match his enthusiasm.
