Those twinkly lights up in yonder sky are made for exploring, exploiting and conquering, and thanks to Paradox Interactive's new Stellaris grand strategy IP we can do just that.

This new game has been teased mercilessly by the Paradox Development Studio for the past week or so and many had begun to shift their suspicions from a follow-up to Europa Universalis: Rome to something perhaps on the final frontier.

We're told Stellaris will feature "enormous procedural star systems, containing thousands of planets," and we will be trading in a multitude of nations to select from for whole playable races with unique outlooks on life, and engineering expertise.

Diplomacy, trade and war will be leading our galactic ambitions and it seems it will be in keeping with Paradox's other in-house developed grand strategies and staying real-time. We'll also get to design our own ships, including civilian vessels, and been stunned by its visuals. The game remains firmly in Alpha development for the foreseeable future.

Stellaris is in development for PC but currently has no star date launch.
