Amazon have released the first trailer for English language version of Studio Ghibli’s 2014 TV series Ronja, the Robber’s Daughter.

Directed by Goro Miyazaki, son of legendary director Hayao Miyazaki, the series tells the tale of 10-year-old Ronja and her family of thieves. A story of loyalty and friendship, Ronja causes tension between her and her family when she befriends a boy named Birk, who just so happens to be the son of a rival family of thieves.

The 26-part series is based on Swedish author Astrid Lindgren’s children’s novel of the same name, which has sold more than 10 million copies worldwide since it was first released in 1981.

When it originally aired, the series was well received by fans and critics alike. It won an International Emmy Award for Best Kids Animation in 2015 and was the first project by Studio Ghibli since Hayao Miyazaki announced his retirement – although he has been rumoured to be shopping a recently announced project around that, if it receives funding, will be an in-house Studio Ghibli production.

Amazon announced that it would be adapting Ronja last October, making it available to Prime Video and Amazon Prime subscribers. The show will premiere on Jan. 27 in both the US and the UK.
