Aladdin: Guy Ritchie Wants Tom Hardy to Play Jafar

Guy Ritchie has rubbed a magic lamp and wished for Tom Hardy to join his live action version of Aladdin as the villainous Jafar.

Ritchie and Hardy are no strangers to each other, the pair worked together on Ritchie’s 2008 crime flick RocknRolla, alongside Gerard Butler and Idris Elba.

A source tells the UK newspaper The Sun that Ritchie is intent on casting Hardy as the titular character’s nemesis, Jafar, for his upcoming live-action version of Aladdin, which is based on the smash Disney animated classic from 1992 starring Robin Williams.

The source tells the publication:

“Guy is a huge fan of Tom’s work and securing him would be a major coup. There have been conversations and, although nothing is set in stone and things are subject to change, he’s certainly one of Guy’s favoured choices. It just depends on schedules whether he’ll be able to sign up.”

Now, we need to take all of this with a pinch of salt but with Will Smith rumoured to be signing up as the genie, the film is certainly attracting a lot of star power. Of course, with Aladdin set to be a musical, it means Hardy will have to work on his singing chops too.
