Wonder Woman Villain Confirmed?
For all its faults (and there were many) Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice did leave us with one positive thing to look forward to, namely, Wonder Woman, who blazed onto the screen with a screech of guitar and sword held high, and immediately whet our appetite for her standalone movie coming later this year.
So far, we’ve seen both Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) and her beau Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) in the recently released trailer but what about the main villain? Or the plot?
Well, French Magazine Studio Ciné Live - via Batman-News - had the chance to interview Pine about the plot of the film where he stated the following (translation via Les Toiles Héroïques):
“I play a pilot who works for the Allies and spies on the Germans without their knowledge. My character steals a notebook filled with scientific formulas in an Ottoman base, he steals a plane but is shot down in the open sea.”
The magazine then goes on to summarise a large chunk of the plot – presumably what was told to them by Pine: “Behind these scientific formulas, there is a deadly gas that could well annihilate humanity. Now, it turns out that this is precisely the goal of Ares, the god of war. He is jealous of humanity, which is a creation of his father, the deceased Zeus (he was killed by Ares when he rebelled against his son, despite the help of the Amazons)…”
Now, nothing has been confirmed by either Warner Bros. or DC and the information – despite coming from someone on set, could be inaccurate but Ares seems like a good fit as the film attempts to straddle both worlds. It wouldn’t surprise us if an existing cast member – perhaps Danny Huston – turns out to be pulling double duty.
Wonder Woman will hit cinemas on June 2nd 2017.
