Fresh Fantastic Four Cast Featurettes
Tripping the casting fantastic, director Josh Trank (Chronicle) and writer/producer Simon Kinberg (X-Men) are featured in four short clips explaining how they chose Miles Teller (Whiplash), Kate Mara (127 Hours), Michael B. Jordan (The Wire) and Jamie Bell (King Kong) for the lead roles in Fox’s Fantastic Four.
Hedging closer to the Ultimate Fantastic Four run and borrowing the somber tone of Interstellar, the clips eschew the lighter, jokey tone of the Tim Story movies; gone are the OTT stylings of the comic and instead, the videos give the impression that the actors chosen for the roles of Mr Fantastic, The Invisible Woman, The Human Torch, and The Thing were picked for their dramatic prowess rather than how closely they resemble their chosen characters.
Although we have been promised that it won’t all be pensive stares and navel gazing – there’s still space for ‘clobbering time’.
Whether or not the film manages to balance the thoughtful tone and keep the die-hard fans happy remains to be seen when the film opens in the UK on August 6.
