Saddling up one more time, Owen Wilson and Jackie Chan are heading west for belated threequel, Shanghai Dawn.

The original kung-fu western come mismatched comedy saw Chan's Chinese imperial guard dispatched to the old west where he was forced to join forces with the laid back rascal Roy O'Bannon, played by Wilson, to rescue princess Lucy Liu.

In the sequel the pair met again in Victorian London, on the hunt for the murderer of Chon Wang's father.

Although both films were successful, there was a noticeable dip in returns for the sequel – Shanghai Dawn was being talked about even back then. At the time, Owen Wilson told Empire: “We met with the writers. There's talk about going to Egypt. This does seem like a Hope/Crosby thing. You can put the characters in all different situations and it works."

The series is currently looking for new writers after creators Miles Millar and Alfred Gough moved on to other things. There's no director in place yet either, but the project is being overseen for MGM by original producer Jonathan Glickman.
