Creed's Ryan Coogler to Direct Black Panther?

Creed has landed a one-two blow of big box office returns and critical kudos and now it’s director Ryan Coogler is being touted to helm Marvel’s Black Panther.

In a move not too dissimilar to previous directors stepping out of their indie ghetto to director big superhero smash ‘em ups, Coogler, in what would only be his third feature, could enter the complex, world-building MCU, and direct the first full film for Chadwick Boseman’s Wakandan prince T’Challa, who will be introduced in Captain America: Civil War, due here on April 29.

Not ever directed is suited to the world-building, multi-film pressure of Marvel’s production house but, having wrangled with Sylvester Stallone’s Oscar winning baby and come out of it both sane and alive, there’s no reason why Coogler couldn’t make a decent stab at it.

Currently, Black Panther has a script in progress from Joe Robert Cole and a planned 2018 release date. As for Creed, the film arrives on UK screens on January 15.
