Magneto Heading Into Darkness for X-Men: Dark Phoenix
Has Magneto’s storyline from the upcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix just been revealed?
Dark Phoenix finds the X-Men franchise in an unusual position. Competition between superhero films has seen spin-off movies like Logan and Deadpool garner critical acclaim while the last X-Men movie, X-Men: Apocalypse was generally given a lukewarm reception by both fans and critics.
That film reunited us with the young X-Men – including Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Angel (Ben Hardy), Jean Grey (Sophie Turner), Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), and more – but also left the future of many characters in a more uncertain state than ever.
Perhaps the biggest question mark relates to the future of Magneto (Michael Fassbender), who after helping the X-Men defeat Oscar Isaac’s Apocalypse and redeem himself in the eyes of Charles Xavier (James McAvoy).
Now, Nerdist have some details as to his position in the X-verse for the upcoming film. According to the report, Magneto will be taking on the role of a cult-like leader when Dark Phoenix begins, with Fassbender specifically asking for costumes that evoke that feeling. And apparently, this may also mean the introduction of an iconic mutant faction from the comics known as the Acolytes. With Dark Phoenix taking its characters into space also, Nerdist speculates that the film could also feature the home base of the Acolytes, a space station built by Magneto known as Avalon.
As well as the fate of Magneto, the Nerdist also teased the introduction of Genosha, a fictional island located the coast of Africa in the comics. Originally a place where mutants were enslaved, Magneto went on to seize control of the island in the 1990s, turning it into a new homeland for Mutants before it was later destroyed out by Sentinels.
So it looks the next X-Men film will more than live up to its name as it brings to the screens one of the most acclaimed X-Men stories of all time.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix will loomed into cinemas on 2nd November 2018.
