Facebook overlord Mark Zuckerberg was part of the announcement at the Oculus Connect 4 conference where the standalone Oculus Go was unveiled.

This revision of the Oculus Rift headgear is a standalone VR experience meaning it doesn't need external hardware to power it, such as a PC. It also has no wires to worry about and is being billed as the 'sweet spot' for entry to virtual reality.

"If we're going to get a billion people in VR, we have to work on both affordability and quality. We have to find the sweet spot in the middle. The high quality experience that doesn't tether anybody to a PC," Zuckerberg said.

"Effortlessly enter VR with no PC or wires attached. Oculus Go is an all-in-one VR headset made to fit you. Designed with breathable fabrics, adjustable straps, and our best lenses yet," blurbs the official Oculus website.

Oculus Go releases in Early 2018 and is priced at $199, with a dev kit version due November 2017.
