Report: Kingdom Hearts 3 And Final Fantasy 7 Remake 'Likely In 2018'

An investor document from Square Enix has cast major doubt their upcoming Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy 7 Remake will arrive in 2017.

Unlike Dragon Quest XI they don't even carry a '2017' stamp on them, instead the two hotly anticipated releases get left blank but presumably within a FY2018 window. Square's fiscal year 2018 started April 1st, 2017 and ends March 31st, 2018.

The Marvel IP License project doesn't even get a fancy logo on the investor slide meaning that could well run beyond FY2018 and maybe even 2018 itself. The partnership deal between Square Enix and Marvel is still relatively new so it has a lot longer to go in development.

As Gamespot reports, Tetsuya Nomura commented earlier in the year that neither Kingdom Hearts 3 nor Final Fantasy 7 Remake were on the verge of release.

"While I can't make a sweeping statement because the development process is different from what we've done so far, there are still worlds untouched," said Nomura-san at the time. "Production is progressing on unannounced worlds, in a state that we cannot show them off. In terms of the state of development, there is still some way to go.”

Despite this there remains hope of something being shown of the two big projects later this year adding he wants to "show our progress at an event somewhere," which could be at E3 2017 in June in Los Angeles, or much later at the Tokyo Game Show in Japan by mid-September.

Kingdom Hearts 3 releases on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and Final Fantasy 7 Remake on PlayStation 4 most likely in 2018.
