A theatrical version of Shakespeare's Scottish play Macbeth may be due out this year starring Michael Fassbender (X-Men: Days of Future Past), but it appears a separate adaptation may be in the works directed by Martin Scorsese.

The film will be based on the 2013 Manchester International Festival production of Macbeth, which was headed by Kenneth Branagh (Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit) in the titular role. Branagh, who would almost certainly return, stated in an interview on BBC Radio 5 that "The fingers are hovering above pieces of paper". The main issue it seems at the moment is working out scheduling, as Scorsese is currently filming Silence.
