The Young Pope Getting a Sequel Titled The New Pope
You’ve met the badass Young Pope, now met The New Pope.
Acclaimed Italian filmmaker Paolo Sorrentino, the mastermind behind limited series The Young Pope, is set to return to Vatican City with The New Pope, which has received the greenlight from HBO.
Getting ready to fill the rather large, irreverent, and enigmatic shoes of The New Pope, Sorrentino will serve as creator, writer, and director of the new series which will be co-produced once more by HBO and Sky Atlantic, with a tentative release set for some time in 2018.
There’s no word yet on whether any of the original cast will return or whether it will be set in the same universe (the Popeiverse?) as the original series.
Whatever comes of The New Pope, it surely won’t be like anything else on TV.
