Angry Birds Developer Rovio Restructures, Terminating 260 Employees

After a period in which Rovio 'did too many things', it is time for the creator of Angry Birds to restructure and, in doing so, terminate as many as 260 employees.

Nowhere is safe for the Finnish company, except those working in North America on The Angry Birds Movie. Pekka Tantala, CEO of the company, recently released a statement; "In our current financial condition, we must now put focus on where we are at our best," he said, "This is personally a difficult decision."

"However, it is certain that a leaner and more agile Rovio is absolutely necessary to move forward and take the company to new successes in the future."

The free-to-play Angry Birds 2 received 50 million downloads but it was not enough to recover from a horrendous period last year in which profits dropped 73 percent. Rovio's licensing business received the blame for the bad turn out.
