Amazon Picks Up The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel For An Initial Two Season Run

In a first for Amazon Video, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, a new comedy-drama series from Gilmore Girls and Bunheads creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, has been picked up for at least a two-season run by the streaming service.

Moving forward with the show, which is very much in a different genre to the likes of The Man in the High Castle, Transparent, Bosch and Mozart in the Jungle, the new series stars Rachel Brosnahan as Miriam “Midge” Maisel, a Jewish housewife in 1950s New York who pursues an unlikely career in stand-up comedy. The series also stars Michael Zegen as Midge’s husband, Tony Shalhoub as her father and Marin Hinkle as her mother. For Sherman-Palladino, the pickup follows the successful revival of her former series, Gilmore Girls, on Netflix late last year.

The series, which was received rave reviews when it was released as part of Amazon’s Pilot Season, could spell trouble for any further series of Gilmore Girls with Netflix – if anything, it should attract fans of the Gilmore Girls.

The pilot of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is currently available on Amazon.
