They’re the best of the worst and they’re coming back for another do or die mission. Suicide Squad 2 looks set to go before cameras in 2018, according to Rick Flag himself Joel Kinnaman.

While not exactly the greatest movie ever made (So many music cues! So much exposition!) Suicide Squad was lucrative, netting just shy of $750m at the global box office, while also doing good business on the home formats front too.

Unsurprisingly, Warner Bros quickly started moving ahead with Suicide Squad 2. Writer and Director David Ayer will be moving on to spin-off film Gotham City Sirens, the movie that brings Harley Quinn together with a bunch of female DC universe villains. And that means that Suicide Squad 2 is still hunting for a director…

As for Kinnaman, while on promotional duties for the latest series of House of Cards, he said: “as far as I know they’re writing the script and I think the plan is to shoot it sometime in 2018, but that could change. I think I’ll definitely come back for it”.

Kinnaman added that David Ayer would be his top choice to direct, but failing that, “someone who is great with character and that’s able to ground the story and maybe put these characters in a more normal situation. It would be really interesting to see these crazy characters interact with regular people as well”.

Suicide Squad 2 looks likely to crash into cinemas in 2019.
