Despite not being part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sony’s Spider-Man spin-off Venom continues to attract big name stars.
The latest name to join the likes of Tom Hardy and Riz Ahmed – pending the inevitable contract wrangling – is Manchester By The Sea star, Michelle Williams.
She’s not a name you would expect to see attached to a superhero movie but perhaps she was tempted by the work of writers Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner or the vision pitched by director Ruben Fleischer.
Tom Hardy will star as journalist Eddie Brock, with whom an alien symbiote merges, transforming him into one of Spidey's signature villains – with Riz Ahmed rumoured to be playing another victim of the symbiote, the villainous Carnage.
Venom is pencilled in to hit cinemas on 5 October 2018.
