In the leaderboards for worst stains on white carpet, Blood and Wine are right up their among the big boys. Thankfully today's spillage is The Witcher 3's latest major expansion.

Already those with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt among their gaming library will have noticed a big update was pushed recently that overhauled some of the UI and made other gameplay tweaks. Today the expansion itself is poured out from CD Projekt RED's cellar.

"Become professional monster slayer Geralt of Rivia and explore Toussaint, a remote land untouched by war, where you will unravel the horrifying secret behind a beast terrorizing the kingdom. With all trails leading to dead ends, only a witcher can solve the mystery and survive the evil lurking in the night. Introducing an entirely new realm to traverse, new characters and monsters, Blood and Wine is a 20+ hour adventure full of dark deeds, unexpected twists, romance and deceit."

This is the final expansion to dark fantasy RPG The Witcher 3, and it's also the studio's biggest add-on project to-date with the new region of Toussaint rivalling Novigrad or No Man's Land in the original game. It whisks us away to a region untouched by the major conflict of the war, but everything's hardly calm or safe.

Yesterday a full changelog for Patch 1.2.0 was released and it adds a bunch of new features like finally being able to toggle whether Geralt will automatically draw or sheath his swords before and after combat. We can now also switch on 'enemy level upscaling' to make weaker enemies a challenge again.

Another little quality of life improvement among the inventory obsessed are how books and scrolls are handled, because now read books are stored in the glossary so once read the books can be sold without losing their information. Additional subcategories are also introduced for item sorting. Navigation is also easier now with gamepads.

There are fixes for the Hearts of Stone expansion too among the slew of other tweaks and improvements. The Blood and Wine expansion is part of the Expansion Pass and is the last known planned expansion for the RPG, though perhaps not the absolute last update in terms of content. CD Projekt RED are known for little surprises.
