Todd McFarlane has confirmed that the Spawn movie reboot will begin filming in early 2018.

According to Deadline, McFarlane, who will direct the film, revealed during New York Comic-Con 2017 that pre-production should start sometime after Christmas, with filming set to begin in February.

So far, no release date has been confirmed.

McFarlane also confirmed that the reboot will be Rated R and have a budget of just $10 million. The director also said he wants little to no studio interference – he’ll instead provide full financial backing for the project with any potential studio to provide distribution and marketing.

McFarane's full control over the project will also allow him to share on-set updates via Facebook.

"We don’t need your input, we don't need your cash, we don't need your creativity—and they don't like those deals," said McFarlane, when talking about movie studios.

For now, Universal appears to be the most likely to partner with McFarlane and producer Jason Blum, though McFarlane isn't ready to rule out other studios.
