Chucklefish Launching Starbound July 22nd, 'Cool Things' In Future Updates

It has taken Chucklefish years but Starbound is at last leaving the crushing gravity of planet Early Access for the wild frontiers of launch space. Prepare to beam up July 22nd.

The project was born out of the likes of Terraria which focuses on a 2D pixel environment with combat, exploration, mining, harvesting and crafting with character progression. It also supports multiplayer servers where players could potentially never meet.

Starbound is based in space where any planet is exploitable in the big wide galaxy meaning there may as well be an infinite number of worlds to obnoxiously go strip-mining for precious resources. These planet-wide biomes can also be home to other species populating the game, both hostile and neutral NPCs.

"After ~5 years, the game we set out to make finally exists, and to say that it all feels a bit surreal would be a massive understatement!" blogged Chucklefish.

"While Starbound will be finished in two weeks, this isn’t the end. We will continue to update and support Starbound for as long as we can. We’ve got loads of cool ideas we couldn’t fit into 1.0 but hope to put into future updates."

Starbound has seen some dramatic changes over the years in Early Access with player feedback playing a crucial role in shaping the game. The Starbound of July 22nd is different beast from a year ago.
