Moseying its way into town, Slow West, the debut feature from The Beta Band’s John Maclean – aka that band John Cusack played in High Fidelity to make himself look way cooler than you – starring Michael Fassbender (Shame).

This Western – which has already drew comparisons with Jim Jarmusch's Dead Man and the work of Wes Anderson and received an enthusiastic reception at Sundance; where it won the institute's World Cinema Jury Prize: Dramatic Winner – follows a 16-year-old boy, played by Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Road) on a journey across 19th Century frontier America in search of the woman he loves, while accompanied by mysterious traveler Silas, played by Michael Fassbender (Frank).

So a sort of beautiful absurdist, coming of age, drama with added cigar-chomping, dust kicking, shoot ‘em ups for good measure.

The film is Maclean’s third collaboration with Fassbender following two short films and also stars Ben Mendelsohn (The Dark Knight Rises), Rory McCann (Wolf Creek) and Caren Pistorious (Offspring).
