Now that HBO/David Fincher’s remake of Channel 4’s Utopia is a no-go, writer Dennis Kelly has been hired to write the latest draft for World War Z 2.

The new hire comes as Paramount looks to keep director Juan Antonio Bayona aboard after he was tempted by the chance to make another high-profile sequel, Jurassic World 2. But he is locked into a deal to helm the follow up with Kelly taking over writing duties from Peaky Blinder’s Steven Knight.

Paramount and producer/star Brad Pitt will be looking to avoid the chaos that blighted the production of the first film, where, disagreements between Pitt and director Marc Foster and a third act that disappointed test audiences, Drew Goddard and Damon Lindelof were parachuted in to come up with a new idea.

Regardless of production issues, the film still took $540 million worldwide hence why Paramount are keen to return to the zombie crisis zone. World War Z 2 is set for a June 9, 2017 release date in the UK.
