Meet Rose, the Biggest New Role in Star Wars: The Last Jedi
Meet the latest actress to join the Star Wars universe, the ‘unlikely hero’ of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Kelly Marie Tran, who will be playing a maintenance worker Rose.
Despite not featuring in the new trailer, Rose is set to become an integral role in the fight for the soul of the galaxy, and make something of a hero of herself too.
"This possibility that any of us could step up and become a hero, that’s where Rose comes from," Last Jedi director Rian Johnson told the crowd at Star Wars Celebration. "She’s not a soldier, she’s not looking to be a hero. But she gets pulled into a very big adventure with Finn."
Given that they both seem to share a less-than-thrilling early life (Finn was a low-ranking Stormtrooper in the First Order), you can see why they might get along. Tran was a fan of the space saga before landing the role. She had to keep the role secret from her family.
“They didn’t know for four months,” Tran explained. “I told them I was doing an indie movie in Canada. At one point, I actually got some maple syrup so I could bring it back to them so they actually thought I was in Canada.”
Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens December 15, 2017.
